1. What are the requirements to register a vessel under the Bahraini Flag?
- Official letter addressed to the Director General of General Organisation of Sea Ports from the ship-owner requesting the registration of the ship.
- Bahraini Commercial Registration to carry out marine activities (for new organization).
- Application for Ship Registration which contains the following
- The name and full particulars of the ship.
- Name, surname, occupation and address of the owner or co-owners and statement of the share of each.
- Where and when built.
- Particulars of the engines.
- Deletion Certificate from the previous flag.
- All relevant classification certificates should be valid (from a recognized classification society by this Administration)
- All documents submitted shall be the original copies or official copies.
- Bill of Sale.
- Arrests which have been imposed upon the ship (if any)
- For a new ship you would also require a Builder Certificate.
- Payment of appropriate fees. Please refer to the Vessels Registry Fees Tariff.

2. What are the Recognized Classification Societies by the Bahrain Administration?
The Bahrain Administration recognizes Classification Societies that are full members of IACS, those are:
- American Bureau of Shipping
- Bureau Veritas
- Det Norske Veritas
- Germanischer Lloyd
- Korean Register of Shipping
- Lloyd's Register of Shipping
- Nippon Kaiji Kyokai
- Registro Italiano Navale

3. How do I get a registration form?
All required forms are available online by selecting Ship Registry Forms.
- What do I need to issue/renew a navigation licence for my vessel?
- To issue or renew a navigation licence a validated Classification Certificate is required.
- Payment of appropriate fees. Please refer to the Vessels Registry Fees Tariff
- For vessels intended to sail within Bahraini waters only a General Condition Report is sufficient.

6. How can I issue an Issue endorsement attesting to the Recognition of a Certificate for my marine officers?
To issue an endorsement you will require the following:
- Completed application form. The form is available online by selecting Ship Registry Forms.
- Proper and Valid Certificate of Competency.
- GMDSS Certificate
- Evidence of Sea Service.
- Medical Fitness report.
- Two passport size pictures.
- Certificate relating to tanker training, if any.

7. What is required to delete a vessel from the Bahraini Register?
- To delete a vessel an official letter requesting the deletion is required signed by all partners ;
- and the original Registration Certificate;
- Payment of appropriate fees. Please refer to the Vessels Registry Fees Tariff
- In case the vessel is mortgaged, then a release of mortgage letter is necessary

8. What can I do if I have lost or misplaced any of my vessel's Certificates?

9. What is a mortgage?
A mortgage is a legal document that creates a security for a loan or other financial consideration, whereby, the registered vessel or share or a share of it is used as security. The person using the vessel as security and receiving the loan is called the mortgagor. The person taking the vessel as security and usually giving the loan is called the mortgagee.
Only registered vessels can have mortgages recorded against them.

10. What is the size of BLZ?
The Bahrain Logistics Zone is currently a one square kilometer development with future expansion plans to more than double its current size. |
11. What sort of companies is BLZ looking to attract?
The BLZ follows a quality over quantity philosophy in attracting and selecting tenants. While the targeted companies are re-export focused and value adding logistics companies, the BLZ will only accept companies that pass a set of selection criteria. These criteria were meticulously designed to ensure long term sustainability and added value to the Bahraini economy in terms of job creation, direct and foreign direct investment, and strategic benefits.

12. Will there be any pre-built warehouses available?
Yes, pre-built warehouses will be available for lease. The size and quantity of warehouses will depend on local and international company demands and specifications.

13. What is the price per square meter for leasing?
Warehouses: starting at BD 3.500 / m2 / month
Land: starting at BD 6.000 / m2 / year

14. Are the plots for lease or sale?
For lease only.

Warehouses: Lease periods start at 5 years –with the option for renewal*

16. Can companies choose the size of plots they need?
Yes, by combining plots, the BLZ will try to accommodate the interests of its tenants.

17. Are all the plots and warehouses of equal size?
No. A variety of land plots and warehouse configurations will be available.
Land Plots start at a minimum of 2,000 m2
Pre-built warehouses start at a minimum of 500 m2

18. Can individuals lease land or warehouses at the BLZ?
No, only registered companies may apply to lease.

19. Will there be a labor accommodations available for lease?
No, however the nearby developments such as the BIW offers these facilities. The BLZ will offer basic and advanced services such as machinery leasing and temporary personnel.

20. Will there be a specific area for temperature controlled goods?
One of the unique aspects of the BLZ is the flexibility of service offering it provides for its tenants. While tenants can lease land to build their own facilities, pre-built facilities will also be available and will be constructed according to the demands of potential tenants. Those will include temperature controlled storage facilities, if required.

21. Will the BLZ accommodate for car storage facilities?

22. What is the status of the current progress at the BLZ?
Infrastructure works have commenced in 2007 and are currently completed. Superstructure (warehouse, office, retail space) works are currently underway. |
23. When can I expect to mobilize if I lease land or warehouses?
Mobilization for tenants leasing plots is scheduled for Q2 2010 and construction works by tenants are expected to start then. |
24. One of the releases mentions 'boutique-style' logistics zone, please elaborate:
The BLZ will be the first of its kind in the Middle East focusing on attracting a niche of re-export and value-adding logistics activities, such as but not limited to: component assembly, packaging, repackaging, bottling, deconsolidation/consolidation, kitting, palletizing for distribution, labeling, testing and repair. By leveraging its unique geographic location, its customs-free status, and its offering of a multi-modal transportation platform, the BLZ will be the ideal location for companies that can generate macro-economic benefits to Bahrain while leveraging the BLZ as a hub to better serve the growing markets of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the northern Gulf (Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, Iraq, and Iran) and the Indian-Subcontinent markets. |
25. Will this be a free zone entity?
The Bahrain Logistics Zone is a customs free zone, within the port with facilitated customs procedures. Special arrangements for visa processing and foreign ownership, among others, will be available for tenants of the Zone.

26. What types of utility services will be available to tenants and at what price?
Water, sewage, and power will be available at standard prices.
